The State Expenditures Dashboard shows how states allocate funding to social programs designed to support families. Ecosystem measures provide additional context for the annual state expenditures, as the cost of living varies across states. Because the cost of living varies across states, we include some ecosystem measures. "Ecosystem measures" provide more context for the annual state expenditures and include the labor force participation rate, child poverty rate, fair market rent of a three-bedroom apartment, the cost of child care for an infant and or toddler, and the cost of meals.
